STEM Challenge!

This morning the students completed a STEM challenge. A STEM challenge combines science, technology, engineering and mathematics and requires the students to challenge each other to create a successful product.

Today the challenge was to build a bridge that could hold the most amount of weight as well as look aesthetically pleasing. A reward was on the line to be the winning team! The students were split into 6 groups of 4. They were given a planning sheet in which they had to research, imagine and design their product, and at the end they had to explain the outcome and write an evaluation.

The only resources the students had to make the bridge with was 1m of masking tape, 30 iceblock sticks and 30cm of electrical tape to secure the bridge to the table.

The winning team managed to hold 950gm on their bridge. This was Scarlett, Gleb, Kauri and Aaliyah. The second place team held 600gm and three teams held 500gm. There was one team that was eliminated as they did not finish in the allocated time.
